What has changed with the new tariff regulations in the United States as of August 29, 2025?

Since August 29, 2025, the United States has eliminated the “de minimis” exemption for low-value shipments, which previously allowed packages under $800 to enter without paying duties.
This means that all shipments to the United States are now subject to duties and customs clearance, regardless of their value.

For most exports from the EU to the U.S., a 15% tariff will apply, covering sectors such as automotive, spare parts, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals. Higher tariffs of 50% remain in place for steel, aluminum, and copper originating from the EU.

How long will the new tariff regulations in the United States remain in effect?

The new United States regulation that eliminates the “de minimis” exemption for low-value shipments is permanent.

There is a temporary transition period for international postal shipments until February 28, 2026, during which postal operators must adapt their procedures to correctly apply the tariffs.

In the meantime, they are required to apply a flat fee ranging from $80 to $200 per package.
Once this period ends, all shipments to the United States will be subject to standard tariffs based on the declared value.
